As High as the Clouds — original square zine cover with a mountain photograph and English and Chinese typography

齐云山 · As High as the Clouds

A story of fertility, necessity, and a mountain.

A photographic zine made from a visit to Mount Qiyun, where a search for menstrual supplies became a story about the distance between celebrating fertility and meeting everyday needs.

The story

During a visit to Mount Qiyun, I started my period and found I hadn’t brought enough supplies. As I walked up the mountain, I asked stall vendors whether they sold sanitary pads.

The zine follows that search through a place associated with prayers for heirs and fertility. I couldn’t find menstrual products in the shops I approached; in the end, a woman running a local restaurant gave me two pads from her own supply.

A personal emergency became a small feminist observation: whose needs are visible, and whose are overlooked? The project holds that question alongside the mountain’s landscapes and everyday encounters.

Visual approach

Film photographs made on FilmNeverDie Zombie ISO 400 sit alongside written fragments and AI-assisted paper collage imagery. Torn paper, muted colour and drawn mountain forms carry the photographs through the sequence without replacing the places they document. The original zine credits the Codex AI skill to Zeejay.
